Trading for everyone!
The Ally Stock Screener is a powerful stock screening tool that empowers investors to make informed decisions. I was tasked with redesigning the Research page, the complete Stock Screener and flow, Filter Selections, Search and Stock Quote pages. Additionally, I redesigned the well-known Ally ETF screener to complement the navigation layout for the Stock screener.
This essential investment resource is the result of a rigorous design process that incorporated user research, iterative prototyping, and delivering the best possible user experience. The stock screener isn't just for trading enthusiests and professionals, the stock screener sought to serve all traders beginer, novice and experts.
Reviews
4.5 out of 5 stars
Ally Invest doesn't have a sophisticated platform for active investors like many of its competitors. This can be both a pro and a con, depending on how you use your brokerage account. The company's web-based trading platform works well on large and small screens. Its features include screeners, market research and analysis tools, streaming charts, and the ability to create customized watchlists.
4.4 out of 5 stars
Ally Invest’s browser-based platform is basic but effective. It offers quick trading capabilities, real-time streaming quotes and data, a customizable dashboard, and access to all of the broker's tools. Customers who frequently trade from various computers — home and work, for example — will appreciate this web-based platform, which doesn’t require any downloads. Ally also allows its customers to trade via mobile devices with Ally Mobile.
3.9 out of 5 stars
There are convenient buy and sell links next to each result. A nice feature of the screener is how it shows matches across each of the criteria selected, not just a final number of matches for the entire search. This allows you to see where adjustments might show more or less information for a successful search. There are also six predefined stock screens available: stable dividend, small-cap value, mid to mega-cap value, small-cap growth, mid to mega-cap growth, and top growth tech stocks.
How a single product design created pathways into fresh experiences.
Referencing Ally's ETF Screener was a must, web design and our team's UX researcher uncovered how the user would access both screeners in the most accessible means possible from both the research page and Screener pages.
Elements like Segmented buttons, search results, and TipRanks data were generated and implemented as useful features to include.

Visual Design & UX Decision Making
Minimize and Contextualize
User research confirmed a lack of context, rendering the previous design too general for beginners.

What did the stock screener address for Ally's customers?

There was need to improve equity tools & research for Invest customers. This need was discovered from referencing customer complaints. My team also identified an opportunity to improve connectivity between TipRanks and Ally's research tools
How did I contribute to this redesign?
Mobile Interface Design for iOS and Android
I worked with a team of developers to integrate native elements from both iOS and Android to ensure compatibility, this led to 2 mockups, prototypes, and deliveries. The stock screener also led to some design system changes with Ally at large which would be integrated into future design patterns and interactions.
